It’s the outcome they were hoping for.
The Children’s Circle Daycare Society has secured a new location on the west end of Valleyview for their childcare centre currently located at 904 Third Ave.
The society received word late last year that Interior Health would not be renewing their lease after June 30, 2019 (the site is slated to become a parking lot for Royal Inland Hospital).
Management then decided to secure a piece of land and build a brand new facility; however, lenders were turning them away because they were a non-profit, according to manager Colleen Malcolm.
Now, Malcolm says the society is working with ARPA Investments to finalize details of a development and lease/purchase agreement at 1642 and 1646 Valleyview Dr.
“It’s a very exciting time,” Malcolm writes in an email to KamloopsMatters. “We are still working to secure a guarantor, so we could apply for a $1-million grant.”
The property is nearly half an acre in size and is big enough to accommodate a 6,000-square-foot building and parking for both parents and staff. It will also allow the society to take on more children.
Malcolm says there’s also 6,500 square feet of outdoor play space with “excellent cover from a mature tree canopy.”
According to a memo sent out to parents this week, building timelines will be longer than the current lease at Third Avenue. The note says a temporary location will be provided during this cross-over period and “further details will be released as they become available.”
