Looking to get out and shed some of that winter weight?
Here's some good news: all of Kamloops's sports fields will be ready and operational in the next few weeks.
Thanks to a February that saw 50 centimetres of snowfall, it's taken longer than usual for the snow to clear. But the parks department has released a schedule of when area fields will be ready for use.
Today, the baseball diamond at Thompson Rivers University joins Hillside Stadium and the Rugby Club as fields that are good to go.
Down the line, the city's minor baseball diamonds will open April 3, the slo-pitch diamonds will be clear on April. 9, and the soccer fields will be up and running April 15.
The tennis and pickleball courts at Riverside Park and Exhibition Park will also open this week.
The city asks that residents stay off the sports fields and school fields until the start of the season to prevent any damage to the turf.
