Know someone who kicked grass on the field in 2018?
Then this new year is the time to recognize their efforts. Today (Jan. 2) marks the opening of the nomination period for the Kamloops Sports Council's 29th annual Athletic Awards, which celebrate the best performers on local courts, fields, gyms and rinks.
Any athlete, coach or volunteer who made a significant contribution to local sport can be nominated from now until Feb. 15.
“It’s important for us to consider all of our city’s different sports and honour the accomplishments of our local athletes,” says Larry Read, athletic awards director, in a press release.
All nominees must have resided in the city in the calendar year of nomination or be a member in good standing with a recognized Kamloops club or association.
Categories include: coach of the year, male and female athlete of the year, team of the year, sports person of the year, university award and international excellence award. There is also a master athlete category for participants over 50 years old.
A panel of judges will determine the finalists. Winners will be announced in April at the Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame banquet.
