A 35-year-old man was arrested Thursday morning (Sept. 13) after following a young girl on her walk to school, according to a release from Kamloops RCMP.

The 12-year-old girl was headed to her friend's house before going to Lloyd George Elementary, when a man she didn't know called out to her. The man appeared to be following her, so once she got to her friend's house and the mother saw the stranger near their property, she called the police.

When RCMP arrived, they discovered the man was impaired. He insisted he made a mistake and thought he knew the girl, that's why he followed her.

After police looked into the man, they discovered he had outstanding warrants in the Lower Mainland.

He is now in custody, waiting to go before a judge.
