Kamloops triathletes top Peach Classic in Penticton

Three local athletes topped their age category in some excellent performances at the Peach Classic Triathlon in Penticton over the weekend (July 21).

Yvonne Timewell finished second among all women in the 63-racer field, while also finishing first among 50- to 54-year-old females with a time of two hours, 26 minutes and 20 seconds. 

Sheena Harris and Katie Sykes also completed the full-length triathlon.

In the sprint distance of the triathlon (half the original), David Gerein finished seventh out of 71 men and first in the 30-to-34 male group, completing the race in an hour, 22 minutes and 13 seconds. Marianne Butcher was just behind, coming sixth out of 72 women and tops in the 50-to-54 female category with a time of one hour, 27 minutes and 50 seconds.

Across the Lake results

Many Kamloops athletes also took to Okanagan Lake over the weekend (July 20) to take part in the largest-ever Across the Lake Swim in Kelowna.

A record 1,325 racers turned out for the 2.1-kilometre swim, including 26 local participants. 

Andrea Burrows was the top Kamloops finisher, swimming the race in 32 minutes and 25 seconds. She finished ninth in the women 30-to-39 category.

In total, 15 local racers finished with a time better than the 45:36 average.
