"We're not just doing this for the money, we're doing it for a sh*tload of money."
So says the hero, Lone Starr, of Spaceballs (1987). It's one of the many quotable moments of one of the best parody films out there. Written and directed by the legendary Mel Brooks (who also was behind Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein and Robin Hood: Men in Tights) Spaceballs takes aim at Star Wars and it's ilk.
Starring Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman and John Candy, it's filled with pop culture references, nods to other film franchises and absurdist humour.
The classic comedy will be on the big screen at Paramount Theatre for one night only later this month. Showing at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, the film is another collaboration night with local movie podcast Drunk in the Graveyard.
