A watch for severe thunderstorms covering much of the central southern Interior of B.C has been issued

Ranging from the Cariboo to the U.S. border and from the Fraser Canyon to Slocan Valley, Environment Canada's alert warns of heavy rain, large hail and strong wind gusts.

"Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms," it states.

The watch cautions that hail can damage property and injure people, the winds may be able to toss objects and damage weak buildings and that rains may create flash floods along with pooling water on the roads throughout the region.

Currently, the hourly projection for Kamloops from Environment Canada shows a risk of thunderstorms until 9 p.m. tonight.
