South Kamloops Titans run into fundraising roadblock

The school district says no to GoFundMe campaign

If you donated to the South Kamloops Titans' GoFundMe page this week — to send them to Prince George for a football playoff game — you’ve received a refund.

Head coach JP Lancaster says the school district has advised him the GoFundMe platform can’t be used to raise money for students.

“I was unaware of that policy beforehand,” he tells KamloopsMatters. “It’s a situation where they want donations coming to the school for transparency reasons.”

People who donated can drop off their money at the high school, in the form of cash or cheque.

KamloopsMatters has reached out to the school district for comment and will update this story when we hear back.

Lancaster launched the GoFundMe page a few days ago after learning his team was receiving a playoff spot. The Titans were eliminated from playoff contention on Sunday (Nov. 4), but the next day, the fourth seed in the Fraser Valley’s Eastern Conference dropped out.

Lancaster says the team hadn't budgeted for one more away game (kickoff is in Prince George on Saturday, Nov. 10); if they had made it to the playoffs the usual route, they'd be playing in Kamloops.

The coach says the team has raised around $1,300 out of the $2,000 goal.

South Kamloops Secondary is located at 821 Munro St.
