A wildfire has been reported west of Kamloops near the Skeetchestn Reserve and Walhachin.

The fire is just south of Walhachin Oxbows Provincial Park, on the south side of the Thompson River. Flames and smoke are visible from the north side of the river according to witnesses, who say it's growing rapidly.

"It is out of control at this time," says B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) fire information officer Taylor MacDonald. "Six BCWS personnel are responding and are being supported by air tankers and a helicopter."

At this time there is no estimate on size, she adds. It's currently suspected to be human-caused.
