For the second year in a row, TRU's men's soccer team took home the bronze from the Canadian West playoffs.
Going 1–1 this weekend, the TRU WolfPack were able to match last year's season end with a third-place finish at the Canada West playoffs, which (usually) includes teams from B.C. and the prairie provinces (but this year the final four were made up of only B.C. teams), according to a press release. The final four teams played this weekend in Vancouver.
On Friday night, Nov. 2, the WolfPack faced off with the Trinity Western University Spartans, falling 3-0 in the semi-final and setting a Saturday night match against the University of Fraser Valley Cascades. In an absolute downpour, TRU's team were able to hold on to an early lead after Justin Donaldson scored in the 24th minute.
TRU head coach John Antulov explained the feeling of back-to-back medals in the press release.
"It is kind of the same feeling. It is always great to get a medal. The fact in the first five years we have been able to go to two final fours and get a medal out of it," he said. "It is a big accomplishment for our group. For our players. I am especially happy for our fifth years."
The WolfPack entered the Canada West playoffs this weekend as one of the top-ranked teams in the country after beating top-ranked teams from the University of BC and University of Alberta. It was the final match of the season for the team.
