A woman in her mid-30s is lucky today after the dumpster she was sleeping in was dumped into a dump truck.

Kamloops Fire Rescue (KFR) was called this morning (Feb. 11) at 8:17 a.m. to the Mary Brown's at the Brock Shopping Centre when a garbage truck driver for Waste Management spotted her in his truck.

She had been sleeping in a dumpster at the nearby Tim Hortons when the garbage truck driver picked up the metal container she was sleeping in, Platoon Cpt. Darryl Cooper tells KamloopsMatters.

"When we got there, she was on top of the truck," he says.

A KFR crew used a ladder to retrieve her from the top of the truck.

Cooper says she was in relatively good condition given the situation. She refused medical treatment, he says.

"She wasn't visibly hurt," he says. "She's very lucky."

He adds similar incidents have happened before.

"Be aware that people could be (sleeping) in those things."
