The Thompson Junior Blazers finished in fourth place at the 2018 Western Canadian Bantam AAA Championship, following yesterday's (April 1) heart-stopping 3-2 loss to the Winnipeg Hawks in the bronze-medal game.

Trailing 2-1 late in the third period, the Blazers pulled goalie Samuel Begg for an extra attacker before Carter Streek managed to find the back of the net with just four seconds left in the game. The goal fired up the home crowd and capped off quite a hot streak for Streek, who finished the tournament with eight points. He was also named to the championship all-star team.

Unfortunately for Thompson, all the momentum built up at the end of regulation did not carry into overtime, as Winnipeg's Nate Goodbrandson scored the game-winning goal after just 37 seconds into the extra frame.

The Blazers finished the tournament 2-3 overall, with 15 goals for and 15 against.

In the gold medal game later that afternoon, the Seafair Islanders defeated the Airdrie Xtreme 2-1 in double overtime. Thomas Tien scored the winner for the Richmond based club (see below).

After the game, the Blazers tweeted out their thanks to players, parents, fans and volunteers for a wonderful season; in particular, Trevor Streek, Renee Barrow, George and Leanne Cochrane for their help in organizing the tournament.
